SoE’s Ustream of Sentinel’s Fate Beta

Glitchy start tonight, perhaps the 300+ viewers is a little more than the tech could handle.

A few bits and pieces that stood out to me:

You can jump into the Hole, just like in EQ.  And you can die jumping, just like in EQ.

The zones that Brenlo toured were gorgeous.  Lots of  incredible visuals, lots of color.  The hallways in dungeons were direct and to the point, but the rooms that they led to were amazing.

Paineel will be a combat zone and a city.  You can bank there, etc.

There was a peak at the Sundered Frontier, an outdoor zone that has solo quest/content for around 77-85.  It was bright, open, and felt a lot like Kingdom of Sky’s Isle of Dawn, sans foliage.

Next up was the Vasty Deep, which is an instanced dungeon with 3 levels.  The Conservatory was the first level we saw.  Looked great, and then I saw what looked like flying books – ugh!  Hopefully they smooth out the warping/line of sight issues with those things, because those books did not behave very well in TSO.

The Vasty Deep level 2 is another group instance, and you get the sense that something really creepy/bad happened in there.  There are “wine” stains all over the place, but what’s really eye catching is the first big room, where you realize that you’re underwater.  The ceiling is made of glass, slightly cracked, and the shadow of a shark moves overhead.

Another tour took place in the Erudin Library, a high level group instance.  What’s neat about this zone is that apparently there is a mystery to solve, and each time you zone in, it’s a different mystery with different clues.  Could be a lot of fun, although sometimes stuff like that is fun the first 5 times, and not so much when you’re on the 50th run.

I had to semi afk during the middle part of the tour (kids bedtime), but all the zones I saw made me itching to take screenshots of the Ustream video, which is something I haven’t been inspired to do since Vanguard.

Some other interesting tidbits:

67% of players are 70-80.  (This was mentioned during a question about why Halas won’t be in the expansion at release)

There will be floating disc mounts, which look like round pillows, and use the squat animation that players use on carpets.

They mentioned that they are continuing their use of toggle difficulty, which was used in the recent X4 Miragul’s raid zone.

There will also be a mount appearance slot.

In reply to a question about Fan Faire, Brasse replied that we’ll know sooner than we think.  (I think the actual quote was, “you’ll know sooner than ye think, so grab a pint and down yer stout, oi can’t wait ta tell ya!) So it sounds like the announcement is right around the corner.
